Abstract

Minnesota State University, Mankato (MSU) Student Support Services Program proposes to serve 175 students per year. The program is well-established and works in a collaborative effort with other MSU offices as well as local community programs. The objectives of the program are: 1) Seventy percent (70%) of all participants served by the SSS project will persist form one academic year to the beginning of the next academic year. 2) Seventy percent (70%) of all enrolled participants served by the SSS project will meet the performance level required to stay in good academic standing at the grantee institution. 3) Forty-two percent (42%) of new participants served each year will graduate within six (6) years. This proposal outlines the required services as well as additional services designed to accomplish the objectives of the program. Understanding that each student has unique academic needs, the proposal presents a variety of services in an attempt to meet the needs of all participants. The proposed services include: academic tutoring, academic advising, financial aid services, financial literacy services, graduate school preparation, academic instruction, career exploration, technology training and access, cultural events, mentoring, and various motivational activities. In addition to the stated objectives and a full array of services, this proposal presents well-established, sound administrative procedures for budget management, documentation of services, and personnel administration. The qualifications for personnel are clear and require the strong qualifications and experience appropriate for serving the program participants. The institution, MSU, has demonstrated commitment to the program through actual dollars, in-kind support, and demonstrated support and commitment from key offices. The proposal presents a clear evaluation plan to ensure accountability and continued growth for the program and the students it serves.
