Description

A belter understanding of the electric properties of YBa2Cu3O6+x, in particular its polarization, can be gained by examining its dielectric constant (K) and the K of similar compounds. Initially a sample was made of YBa2CU3O6+x. Subsequent samples consisted of changing the Y to Gd, Ho, and Nd. Samples of Nd1.5Ba1.5Cu3 and YBa2Cu27Fe0.3O6+x were also prepared and underwent a reducing heat treatment such that 0 < x < 0.1. Dielectric constants were measured using a parallel plate capacitor followed by an X-ray diffraction to determine the lattice constants and also check for impurities.
