This research project examines the use of precast concrete in developed versus developing countries from its peak in the early 1900s through the recent years. By researching this topic, I clarify the reason behind the use of precast concrete in developing versus developed countries. Developing countries tend to use less precast concrete, because of the lack of structural engineers and contractors specialized in precast concrete systems. The time period studied includes the expansion of precast concrete use, and development in technology. I use two major research strategies: (1) a quantitative data analysis (2) two case studies. Data have been collected from archives, newspapers, and published reports. This research challenges the pros and cons of using precast concrete.
