Aims & Scope

Innovations and Critical Issues in Teaching and Learning is a peer-reviewed journal that provides research-based discussion of innovations and critical issues related to teaching and learning in the 21st century. Innovations and Critical Issues in Teaching and Learning publishes articles that: apply research to practice, review literature on a relevant and timely topic, and are theoretical.


Submissions from graduate students and faculty in the Elementary & Literacy Education Department at Minnesota State University, Mankato will be accepted beginning May 2020.

Papers should provide research-based discussion of innovations and critical issues related to teaching and learning in the 21st century. Papers should apply research to practice, review literature on a relevant and timely topic, or posit new theory. Articles should run between 4,000 and 6,000 words (including main text, references, tables, and figures) and use APA formatting.

Further, each paper is expected to have the following sections:

  • Introduction
  • Review of Literature
  • Application/Theory Generation/Analysis
  • Implications or Discussion
