Description

The purpose of this project is to find an efficient, cost-effective method for the removal of triorganotin halides from reaction mixtures. This would prevent organotins from entering the waste stream thus minimizing their impact upon the environment. Existing methods for the removal of the toxic triorganotin byproducts have many drawbacks. They are slow and ineffective, costly, hazardous, toxic, or pyrophoric. Our method is efficient, cost effective, and involves the conversion of the organotins into insoluble tin fluorides. After removal by filtration the tin fluorides can be recycled by converting them back into tin chloride, the starting material from which most organotins are made.
