Description
The September 27, 2001 edition of the Minneapolis Star Tribune states that approximately 1 million Americans have Parkinson's disease, with an estimated 50,000 new cases developing each year. The number of people afflicted with this disease is more than the numbers for multiple sclerosis and muscular dystrophy combined. According to the April 8,2000 edition of the Wairarapa Tunes Age of New Zealand, a brain pacemaker known as Activa Tremor Control Therapy is the first new Parkinson's treatment in nearly 30 years, the Brain Pacemaker may also have the promise to revolutionize the way neurological disease will be treated in the future. The purpose of this project is to look further into this revolutionizing technology by first, discovering the promise of the brain pacemaker, secondly, identify how it works, and finally, determine its social implications.
