Description

Alcohol advertisements mirror traditional portrayals of gender in the United States. Print advertisements have been used to influence people and product consumption. This research examined how alcohol advertisements perpetuate the idea of women as either objects or consumers through a content analysis of popular men's and women's magazines. An examination of alcohol ads sampled from 2005 to 2007 demonstrated how women are depicted by race, gender, and economic status.
