Description

This project focused on developing a turbocharged internal combustion engine for research concerning the fuel E85. E85 has the strong potential for increased use in turbocharged engines because of its inherent high knock resistance or octane rating; however, there is a lack of information regarding its application in turbocharged engines. The E85 Induction project examined the power and efficiency potential of E85 in a turbocharged engine. The areas of research included cylinder pressure, bum characteristics, and comparison of indicated and brake horsepower values. The project ipcluded adapting a turbocharged Ford 2.3 liter four cylinder engine to run on E85, updating a Stuska engine dynamometer, and gathering data during engine testing. Research was not complete at time of abstract submission.
