Abstract
What are some recent differences in the innovations of the basic course? How do these differences involve technology and influence retention? Panelists will discuss innovative approaches and corresponding research conducted on their campuses. The effects upon student learning outcomes and retention are explored within various contexts: online, hybrid, and face-to-face formats; virtual speaking sessions; persuasive speaking assignments, and interactive e-books. Together, these projects seek continued improvement of the basic course in ways that will help to make a difference in the field of Communication.
