Dragonsworn

Abstract

The Chosen One always dies. Everyone knows that. Except Princess Aldreda. She is the first in dozens of Chosen Ones to survive her fate. When she returns to her home, to her father, she discovers that everything she thought she knew was a fiction. Her death was to be the catalyst for genocide. Armed with nothing but her own stubbornness and the allyship of the mercenaries who escorted her to her destiny and the dragon god spouse whose magic should have killed her, Aldreda must grow into the person her father tried to stop her from becoming. Idris walked into their destiny unconcerned. If their bride died, oh well - most of them died. The humans could choose to retire that aspect of the treaty whenever they wished. If she lived, humans don't live very long, and they'd be free of her soon enough. They even found a troupe of mercenaries that let them get close, get the measure of her before they were intertwined body, soul, and mind. They have no way of knowing the kind of all-consuming change being bound to Aldreda will cause. In this world without evolution, with dragons and vampires and centaurs and werewolves, the lives of Idris and Aldreda are going to collide, and neither of them will escape unscathed.
