Description
Cigarette advertising in college newspapers was a popular occurrence in the 1940s and '50s, and the MSU Reporter followed this trend displaying these ads on several pages within their paper. After approximately thirteen years, many of the ads disappeared. The way these images and ads were displayed on the pages changed since the first cigarette publication. This research identifies issues such as the brands of cigarettes the Reporter advertised during the 13 years, the number of times the images were displayed in each issue, the page number the ad was on, and the images that were used. Looking at the history of MSU and the Reporter's advertising from the past gives students today an understanding of a past culture and one which is part of the University's history.
