Abstract
Creating effective pedagogical strategies for student engagement is a perpetual challenge for communication instructors. This discussion panel highlights the foundational role that motivation plays in students’ predispositions towards, and participation in, certain subject matter in both face-to-face and online classrooms. Panelists will explore extrinsic and intrinsic factors motivating non-majors’ perceptions toward the basic communication course, texting and social media use during classroom instruction, developing research and information literacy skills, and participation in online-only learning environments.
